Te Pae Tamariki 2009

Kia ora koutou katoa

Thank you so much for your  support at this years event.  Our group, as always did us proud.  They were fantastic and appeared to have enjoyed the day out watching other schools perform.  It is a fantastic way to celebrate Te Reo and the performing Arts.  Keep watching this space for pictures and footage from this years’ festival.

We have such a clever whanau at Russell Street School, If there are any whanau who wish to support Kapa Haka come along to a practice and join in.  We usually have practice on a Tuesday from 2pm – 3pm.   We encourage whanau to get involved, it would be awesome to have whanau tutoring our group or composing new waiata for us. We will need to start thinking about next years bracket for the festival and the end of year Graduation Ceremony and what this could look like.   If you think you may like to get involved please feel free to catch up with me or  send me an email.

Kia ora koutou.

Tomorrow a newsletter will be sent home with all students who are in Kapa Haka, asking for attendance permission and also for whanau support to help with supervision of small groups throughout the day.  We are scheduled to perform at 12.30 and our bracket is approximately 15-20 minutes duration.  We will be departing school at 10.30am arriving back at school by 3.00pm.  Children will need a packed lunch for the day and a drink.  Entry to the festival is by gold coin or donation, staff with donation buckets are usually situated by the door and in the foyer of the Regent.  There is no set seats so it is a matter of finding one to accomodate your group of supporters.  One thing to be mindful of is that doors are usually closed during performances so ensure you are seated well before a group starts or you will be required to remain in the foyer until that group/school has finished performing, this strategy minimises noise for the audience and performers.

We look forward to seeing as many Russell Street Supporters as possible.

Thursday, 2nd July:  9:00am – 2.30pm

Since 1993 Te Pae Tamariki has been an annual event held within the Manawatu region.  It is an occasion where Primary and Intermediate Schools meet and perform Kapa Haka.  These performances celebrate Maori culture and the achievements of young people who participate and support this.

Our school Kapa Haka group have been working hard to learn their bracket for the festival.  For some it has become a challenge learning all these new things and to also be able to put actions to new songs but we are all learning to show perseverance, determination and committment.

We will be asking for whanau support to help with supervision of  small groups during the day, when we are not performing.   We will be sending more information home closer to the day.

Nga mihi ki a koutou katoa
